The Combat Blindness Foundation is sponsoring its 2nd Annual 5K Sight Walk on September 13, 2008 at 8:30 AM.   The 2nd Annual Sight Walk is designed to raise awareness of the 37 million people living with preventable blindness around the world.  Ninety percent of those blind live in developing countries.  Eighty-three percent of this blindness is avoidable and treatable with inexpensive interventions.  Half of the total blindness around the world is due to cataract, a clouding of the lens in the eye, which can be cured by a simple 20-minute procedure at a cost of $20 per patient.

The Sight Walk is on Saturday, September 13th at 8:30 AM, onsite registration begins at 7:30 AM.  The walk will start and finish at the UW Library Mall.  Participants may register on-line at www.combatblindness.org or by calling 608-238-7777.  Each participant can choose to collect pledges from members of the community.  Please call 608-238-7777 or e-mail us at This E-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it   for more information.

Proceeds from the Sight Walk fund go to CBF to support free cataract surgeries in developing countries and to help fund the UW Health Free Community Eye Care Clinic for the uninsured and disadvantaged in south central Wisconsin.

Every 5 SECONDS somebody needlessly goes blind, every minute a child goes blind.  For just $20, we can be the solution in sight.
