In 1992, CBF, along with its program partners, supported the creation of Aurolab, an intraocular lens factory in Madurai, India. The main goal in establishing Aurolab was to remove the cost barrier for poor patients in India. Today, Aurolab produces high quality intraocular lens (IOLs) at a fraction of the cost of those produced in the United States. Many of the lenses produced are supplied at cost to non-profit users in India and other developing countries, including many projects supported by CBF.

In 1998, CBF again teamed with other program partners to sponsor the addition of a suture factory at Aurolab. Aurolab now produces high quality, low-cost suture needles for use in cataract surgeries. Like the IOLs, many of these sutures are supplied at cost to non-profit users.
